Job Post: Senior Pyro-Metallurgical Process Engineer – Copper Smelting Experience
Location: Mississauga, Ontario

Across-the-board’ engineering expertise on projects related to smelting, converting and refining of copper; knowledge and experience in copper smelter off-gas handling, from the conceptual phase through to the detailed engineering phase and commissioning.

– Manage and perform process engineering designs to ensure project goals are achieved within the budget and time constraints
– Interact with clients to promote the company and ensure satisfaction
– Development of process design criteria, process and utility flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications, mass and heat balance, functional descriptions, control philosophy and instrument specifications
– Prepare and review specification of equipment
– Preparation of Project Reports
– Ensure the quality of deliverables coincide with the groups fundamental core values
– Assist with project cost estimation
– Preparation of proposals and estimation of man hour budgets
– Preparation of requests for bids, qualifying vendors and making recommendation for purchase
– Preparation of commissioning and start-up of the plant documentation including method statements, job hazard analysis and permits to work
– Provide process support to other disciplines
– Assist in sourcing new work and maintaining existing client base
– Site travel as required by project


– B.Sc. in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering
– P. Eng. accreditation or eligibility
– 10+ years’ experience in process engineering including plant operations and engineering design with an emphasis on EPCM projects
– Strong knowledge of nonferrous pyrometallurgy in particular copper smelting and refining
– Knowledge of Isasmelt technology and Peirce-Smith converters
– Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time
– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and within established timeline
– Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
– Ideally will have plant operating or plant support experiences
– Previous experience with leading and managing people
– Experience using programs such as Metsim, HSC Chemistry for heat and mass balances
– Strong communication and technical writing skills
– Flexibility to travel and work on site when required
