The Yukon Nominee Program was developed to allow the Government of Yukon to nominate potential immigrants based on industrial and economic priorities and labour market conditions; and who, based on Yukon’s assessment, have a strong likelihood of successfully establishing themselves in Yukon society.

There are three programs the Yukon Nominee Program offers: the Skilled Worker Program, the Critical Impact Worker Program and the Business Program. Please link to the categories listed to find out more information on each program:

Skilled Worker Program

The Skilled Worker Program is an employer driven process.  The program is intended to identify individuals who have the capability of making a significant economic contribution to a Yukon business, industry or community. The program is designed to attract qualified individuals that will assist with shortages of skilled workers in the Territory

Eligibility – the potential nominee must:
  • Have an offer of permanent, full-time employment in Yukon either in an occupation or trade in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Matrix level “A” or “B
  • Have the required certification or accreditation for the specific trade or occupation.
  • Be licensed or accepted by the Territorial body governing for the occupation or trade, if applicable
  • Be able to conduct basic communications in either English or French, depending on the official language of the work place.
  • Not be a refugee claimant

Critical Impact Worker Program

The program is designed to increase the labour pool for entry level jobs in the hospitality and service sector industry to address the critical need of semi-skilled workers in the Yukon.

Eligibility – the potential nominee must:
  • Be for a permanent full-time position.
  • Be in a trade or skill that falls into skill level C or D of the National Occupational Classification Matrix. These occupations usually require secondary school and/or occupation-specific training or on-the-job training.
  • Have a temporary work permit and have worked in the position for six months OR obtain a score of 45 or better on the Pre-Assessment,
  • Prove sufficient financial supports or settlement supports in Yukon
  • Have the required work experience for the specific occupation
  • Be able to conduct basic communications in either English or French, depending on the official language of the work place.
  • Not be a refugee claimant

Yukon Business Nominee Program

Yukon is looking for people with at least five years business experience who can start a new business, partner with an existing business, or purchase and operate an existing business in order to enhance the production and marketing of goods, services, exports, technology or research in the priority sectors.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of senior management or direct entrepreneurial experience in a business similar to the one proposed.
  • Have a minimum net worth of CDN$250,000, including minimum liquid assets of CDN$150,000. Liquid assets include, for example: cash, demand deposits with a financial institution, term deposits, tax shelters convertible to cash, and readily marketable investments including publicly traded stocks and bonds.
  • Have visited Yukon at least once, and, as a consequence, have an understanding of Yukon’s business and social environment.
  • Can demonstrate reasonable communication skills in one of Canada’s official languages in order to operate a business in Yukon.

To be nominated, an individual must plan to be actively involved in the management and operation of the business. There is a requirement for equity investment in the business to ensure its viability. The minimum amount is $150,000 CDN, which must purchase a minimum of 33.33 percent of the business.

Priority will be given to immigrant entrepreneurs who intend to establish an active business or purchase all of an existing business that has supportable prospects for expansion in a sector identified by the Strategic Sector List.
